Spotlight: How Softwear Systems Provides Drupal Security

In the early 1980’s Softwear Systems opened up as a custom software company in Chicago. Over the years, its founder Mitch Meyers, learned how to create and manage great websites. Today, the company focuses on providing effective Drupal web development for their clients.

At one point, Softwear had a client who worked for a branch of the military where security was a very real concern. In addition to various clearances and requirements, Mitch learned a lot about what it takes to provide superior website security. This extended to wisely choosing the host and platform for developing these websites.

I know Drupal and I’m good at it. To me it’s more secure than WordPress.

As with any new knowledge, there is a constant process of testing, learning, and iterating new solutions. Though Mitch is now confident in the hosting platform and security services he uses, there was a learning curve he had to go through to get the best possible solution for his clients.

SQL Injections in Drupal

During one of the tests Mitch carried out with a particular hosting provider, there were some issues when it came to making sure that Drupal was always secure and up to date.

This other hosting service didn’t have Softaculous every time an update came through, so it was a little bit more work to update every site, subsequently I got behind sometimes on my patches and that’s how I got infected.

Mitch tried other solutions before finding Sucuri to get rid of the infection. As with his hosting provider, there were issues with these other solutions. Mitch knew he could find something better suited to help him and his clients.

I’m a relatively small business. I don’t have a lot of liquid capital. So if SiteLock wanted to charge to talk to you on every bit they changed, it got ridiculous. I said there’s got to be something better out there and I found Sucuri.

Over 500 files were infected with malware due to SQL injections in Drupal. The team at Sucuri fully restored the website and installed Softaculous, which made Drupal updates a lot easier for Mitch and his team.

Virtual Patching via Sucuri

After the quick cleanup work and professional service provided by the Sucuri Incident Response Team (IRT), Mitch decided to go all in and get the Sucuri Firewall to protect his sites.

You guys got me up and running. That’s when I said I’m done and decided to stop with SiteLock and go with Sucuri 100%. I’m a small entity here. SiteLock is not designed for small entity. They’re designed for someone who has a lot of capital. What about the small business owner like me? They didn’t take care of that person, but Sucuri does – and the large.

Seeing that Sucuri had not only enterprise website security, but affordable solutions for everyday small business owners, Mitch found Sucuri to be a great fit.

On a scale of one to ten you guys get a 10. I would recommend Sucuri to anybody.

Regardless of the platform, business needs, or size of your organization, Sucuri specializes in providing state-of-the-art website security and the best possible customer experience.
